In full southern twang, Dorian Palmer makes it plain at a recent Evolve PAC gathering at the Goodwin House. North Carolina will continue to be a dominant force in the YDA (Young Democrats of America).
After raising over $90,000 as the president of the North Carolina Young Democrats, Palmer set his sights on the YDA. It is, according to it’s website, “the nation’s largest youth-led, partisan political organization, with over 20,000 members nationwide in 50 states and territorial chapters…”
Palmer is running for YDA representative on the Democratic National Committee.

If you ask, Palmer can quickly rattle off the states he has traveled to as part of his campaign. But he will not let you forget where he comes from, the rural Appalachia of North Carolina.
In fact, he holds this proudly as part of his identity.
“Damn proud,” is what he actually says.
Palmer’s family relied on social safety net programs when he was growing up in “the hills and hollows” of North Carolina. His father was incarcerated, and his mother “did her part just to make ends meet.”
In his speech, Palmer reminded all in the room that “…rooms like this one in this house weren’t made for somebody like me and mine, which is why I believe the American dream is possible and that a belief in doing something greater for folks can make all the difference.”
Dorian Palmer currently serves as Director of Coalitions and Community Engagement for the North Carolina Democratic Party. Speakers included Senate Democratic Leader Sydney Batch, House Democratic Leader Robert Reives, current YDNC Chair Zach Finley, Former DNC Member Montica Talmadge, Secretary of State Elaine Marshall, and SEC Member Mark Newman.
